You’ve been fantastic.
It’s great to see the hard-earned money that schools have raised for SignHealth arriving in the office. We’ll make sure it gets used well.
But what does it mean when we tell you that the cash you send us will help give Deaf children the same healthy future as their hearing friends, and provide services in sign language to adults who’ve grown up with inequality?
It means amazing results, like the life-changing difference our DeafHope service made to Jessie. DeafHope gives support to Deaf women and children who are caught up in domestic violence.
Because of communication difficulties, and not being able to pick up the phone to call for help, Deaf women are twice as likely as hearing women to experience abuse.
To protect her while she is still vulnerable the woman whose story is told here has been played by an actress, and we’ve changed her name to Jessie.
